Is that the variable cam gear timing actuator?

It is the the Cam timing valve for the inlet side of the camshaft , in some models with Turbo they had one on the exhaust side also. It controls oil flow to the cams at specific times , not sure what they call it in American terms but here it's just called Cam timing valve , I don't think it has any effect on the cam timings just there lubrication but I could be wrong I am only an amateur mechanic.
However after buying two of these valves and finding them to be faulty I found this way of testing them, now I have a working valve and my car no longer shows this fault Valve bank one on the
OBDC II test meter.nftw

Yeah I had the same problem in my ford f150 we call it a cam phaser vct solenoid, the cam gear is basically spring loaded to retard the timing upon cold starting then when the oil pressure goes up the vct solenoid fills the gallerias inside the gears and advances the timing vice versa. Glad you got it figured out.

Yeah it's a hit or miss with remanufactured parts.

Got it running as sweet as a bird now , did have the throttle body problem P2101 but a good clean and some contact cleaner cured the problem. So do you have a Volvo if so which one , mine is the 2.4 S80 best motor I have ever owned . Our yearly condition of vehicle test we call it an MOT is never a problem, she usually sails through with minimum work needed so very pleased with the old girl lol nftw

It's true that's why women are so jealous of the relationship a bloke can have with his car, for instance he spends money on his car for all sorts of things that he wouldn't spend on a woman lol.
He buys knick knacks for his car like giving the car gifts as the woman see's it , so yeah women are very jealous of your car and they know you love it .
So when you split with a female first thing you do is hide your car, because that's the first thing they will smash if they can lol lol!
